A little more about this book

Rhyming text takes children straight into the colour, movement and excitement of a Pride parade. The book also includes information for grown-ups about discussing sexual orientation and gender identity, plus a reading guide with additional LGBTQ+ history and context.

It also won the 2015 Stonewall Book Award – winners recognised exceptional LGBTQIA+ literature across three main categories, announced by the American Library Association.

Helpful when

Introducing Pride, looking for LGBTQ+ representation, talking about identity and community, or simply building a bookshelf that reflects more of the world.

How to use at home

Start with the parade. There is plenty happening in the illustrations to explore without needing to turn the first read into a big conversation. If questions come up, the additional information at the back gives grown-ups somewhere useful to start.

Recommended age

Preschool (4-6 years), Early primary (6-8 years), and Growing readers & learners (8+ years)
