Our story
The Resource Roost grew out of a shared belief that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and understood, and that families deserve access to thoughtful, high-quality resources without overwhelm.
Created by Storm and Amber, The Resource Roost brings together professional expertise, lived experience, and a deep respect for how learning happens in real homes, not just ideal ones.
Storm graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2014 with a BSc in Speech-Language Pathology. She completed her community service year in Kimberley before returning to her home in Cape Town, where she has worked in private practice for over ten years. Storm has a particular passion for early communication intervention and has walked alongside many families, supporting children with a wide range of communication needs as they develop their language and connection in ways that feel meaningful and achievable. Her work is grounded in practical, play-based approaches that fit naturally into everyday family life, with a strong emphasis on inclusion, understanding, and trust.
Amber is a mum to a toddler boy and a senior leader in the e-commerce space, with over ten years of experience across design, digital systems, and online retail. While her day-to-day work focuses on leading and scaling digital businesses, her personal interests lie in Montessori principles, emotion science, and how children learn through structure, rhythm, and everyday interaction. At The Resource Roost, Amber designs the Roost Originals in close collaboration with Storm, bringing clarity, structure, and design thinking to resources that are practical, calm, and easy for families to use.
The Resource Roost is shaped by a friendship of over twenty-five years, shared values, and a deep trust in one another’s expertise. Everything at The Resource Roost is carefully curated and thoughtfully built in-house, from the resources we offer to how they are presented. This allows us to move slowly, stay intentional, and ensure that each recommendation feels considered, supportive, and genuinely useful for families.
