We focus on thoughtful recommendations, not endless choice, and on resources that are available in or can be shipped to South Africa.
Why does The Resource Roost exist?
Because finding meaningful resources should not feel overwhelming or time-consuming.
Many valuable tools exist, but they are often hard to find, poorly categorised, or buried behind endless scrolling. We exist to do the searching, checking, and filtering, so parents can make confident choices more easily.
What makes your recommendations different?
We recommend fewer things, more intentionally.
Every resource earns its place through usefulness, quality, and real-world relevance. We prioritise how a child will actually engage with something, not trends, hype, or novelty.
Are the resources you feature available in South Africa?
Yes.
Everything we feature is either available locally or can be shipped to South Africa. Availability matters to us, and we do not highlight resources that parents cannot realistically access.
How do you find and choose the resources you recommend?
Through lived parenting experience, professional expertise, research, and ongoing curiosity.
We look for resources that support development, inclusion, communication, independence, and emotional growth, and we consider how they are used, not just what they are.
Are your resources only for children with additional needs?
No.
Well-designed, inclusive resources benefit all children. Many of the tools we feature support skills that are valuable for every child, without labels or separation.
What do you mean by inclusive resources?
Resources that consider different abilities, needs, and ways of engaging with the world.
Inclusion, to us, is about thoughtful design, representation, and accessibility, without tokenism or over-complication.
Do you sell the products you recommend?
Mostly, no.
The Resource Roost is primarily a discovery and curation platform. We guide you to where a resource is available rather than trying to sell everything ourselves.
Why don’t you stock everything you feature?
Because our role is to curate, not to become another marketplace.
Not holding stock allows us to stay focused on quality, independence, and trust, rather than volume or sales pressure.
Why do you offer pre-owned resources?
Some of the most valuable resources are expensive and are sometimes used for a short window of time.
We offer carefully checked and clearly graded pre-owned items to make high-quality resources more accessible, while also reducing waste.
Why aren’t you active on social media?
We have chosen focus over noise.
Our energy goes into research, curation, and thoughtful communication, rather than constant posting. This may change over time, but it is not a priority right now.
Why a WhatsApp channel instead?
Because it respects parents’ time.
Our WhatsApp channel is a quiet, one-way space where we share only what is worth knowing, when it is worth knowing it. No clutter, no commentary, just useful information.
