Manny’s Mood Clouds (Hardcover)

Manny’s Mood Clouds (Hardcover)

This isn’t simply another feelings book. It’s specifically about mood disorders, told from the perspective of a sibling trying to understand what’s happening and how to help. That’s a much harder kind of resource to stumble across.

A little more about this book

Elijah notices colourful clouds appearing above his brother Manny. Different clouds accompany frustration, panic, sadness and high-energy happiness. Elijah initially tries to make them disappear before learning more about mood disorders and ways to support his brother. The book also includes guidance for adults from a clinical psychologist.

Helpful when

A sibling or friend experiences significant changes in mood, a family is navigating a mood disorder, or a child is struggling to understand why someone close to them sometimes behaves very differently.

How to use at home

The clouds give children useful visual language. You can borrow the idea without diagnosing every feeling: “What colour cloud does today feel like?” For families dealing with an actual mood disorder, use the adult guidance at the back too.

Recommended age

Preschool (4-6 years), Early primary (6-8 years), and Growing readers & learners (8+ years)

How we found it

A children’s book about mood disorders from the sibling’s perspective is unusually specific. Which is precisely why we’re glad to have found one.
