A little more about this book

Representation without making it complicated. Heather has two mums, her classmates have all sorts of different families, and that's simply part of the story. A lovely shelf addition for children to see both their own families and families different from theirs represented.

The book is specifically recognised as an LGBTQ+ inclusive children's title centred on lesbian representation and different family structures.

Helpful when

Helpful for talking about different family structures, belonging and what makes a family, or simply for adding more everyday family diversity to your bookshelf.

How to use at home

You don't necessarily need to turn this one into a "conversation". Read it as you would any other picture book. If your child notices that Heather has two mummies or starts comparing families, follow their lead and talk about all the different ways families can look.

Recommended age

Early years (2-4 years), Preschool (4-6 years), Early primary (6-8 years), and Growing readers & learners (8+ years)
