The Memory Book (Paperback)
This is exactly the sort of book you don't think about until suddenly you need it. It gives young children a way to understand dementia and the changes they may notice in someone they love, particularly a grandparent.

A little more about this book
A little girl loves spending time with Grandma, reading, playing piano, feeding the birds and looking through old photographs. When Grandma starts forgetting the people in the pictures, Mum explains that she is living with dementia. The story explores what may change while reinforcing that Grandma is still the person they know and love.
Helpful when
A grandparent or someone else a child loves is experiencing dementia or memory loss, or when you want to introduce the idea before it becomes part of their own family experience.
How to use at home
Let the story do most of the explaining. If dementia is already part of your child's life, use what happens between Grandma and her family as an opening for their own questions.
Recommended age
Preschool (4-6 years), Early primary (6-8 years), and Growing readers & learners (8+ years)
How we found it
One of those Bookshop finds that made us look twice. A genuinely useful book that's usually rather expensive to get hold of locally, spotted at a price that meant we could bring it to the Roost for much, much less.
